Today I typed "jump" into the Flickr search box, resulting in 825,644 photos. It was like watching the whole world jump at once. My lips parted into a smile I just couldn't shake, while "Live Your Life" by T.I. featuring Rihanna sung through my headphones, sending tingles of joy through my veins.
There is something so freeing, so joyful, so brave, so resilient about people leaping, jumping, defying gravity, or perhaps defying life. Life is tough, so they say, but through it all thousands of people still find it in themselves to celebrate what life has given them. To forget self-consciousness and fear, to fling themselves into the air.
Jumping can be brave. A jump off a waterfall, an adreilene rush. Jumping can be joyful. A jumping shot snapped at a wedding, and enternal glimpse of celebration of love. Jumping simply because something so good happened, something that drives you to loose all inhibitions and bounce off the ground, airborne.
One detail I noticed throughout almost all the Flickr captures of jumps, were enormous grins. Perhaps jumping is just an extension of a smile. From your mouth, to your feet. An infectious joy you just can't stop.
Go ahead. Jump on your bed. On a trampoline. Leap into the pool. Off the couch. Ignore the stares of strangers, and skip, leap, and jump in the street. Bungee jump. Sky dive. Just jump!
But...assuming you're not a natural jumping bean, what do you do to express joy? And/or can you remember any events or things that have happened in your life that just literally made you jump up into the air?

but if i am in a place where jumping is not the most appropriate thing i giddly tell myself how great things are, this happens a lot when i am thrift shopping at flea markets, thrift sales etc, all the old people look at me funny!

Jumping...well I try and jump on & off buses every day, do little skips & hops over cracks, puddles, rubbish on the ground, shimmy past slower walkers and generaly try & dance through town! It's an odd habit but usually I'm already listening to music, so why no have the moves to go with my internal soundtrack! Jumping on trampolines/bouncy castles is great fun & you can't help but smile from ear to ear I agree :) I must try and jump a little longer & higher next time!

Actually I went on a trampoline on tuesday for the first time in years, and at first I was really uncoordinated and awkward, but then when I got back into the swing of things it was soooo fun!

I jump.. but I mostly just laugh like a crazed lady-- woman-- witch.. and yes, a bit behind with work-- trying to catch up but not before I get a dose of your inspiring posts to get me going.. and again, your psychic abilities seem to be at work!
anyway, im gonna go jump now.. jump back into piles of work and hopely i come out unscathed with sanity intact. haha.

I love jumping! For school camp in 6th grade we had to go absailing and we had to do massive jumps down a small cliff. It was so scary but exhilarating at the same time. There's something about being in the air that brings about a sense of freedom.
If I can't do big massive jumps I dance around - I think the act of dancing and the music brings me a lot of joy.

Congrats on your 50th post!! Love the polaroid photos! My friends are always trying to do "jump" photos, but I think when you plan them, they're not quite as good anymore. They have to be taken on the spur of the moment. Whenever I'm in love, I just feel like listening to "jumping" music and skipping, jumping, and dancing around my room!

jump jump! i love jumping + skipping. I mean who skips anymore ? I DO!!! i even took the brave jump and went skydiving last year... WHICH WAS INSANE! i know using someone else's logo probably isn't a very smart idea... i know a thing or two about grapic design so it wasn't really the problem that i couldn't make anything myself but i actually did it intentionally to recreate the ffffound page (the layout looks alike too) but then this time with music on it instead of just pictures :)
i actually emailed the people over at ffffound to ask them but they haven't gotten back at me yet (my blog is quite new ha ;)) so we'll see how it goes!
i do hope they don't sue me haha :)
