My mother says I taught myself to read at age 3, and by age 6 was devouring 300-400 page novels. I suppose this shouldn't surprise me since I can't ever recall a moment in my past in which I wasn't hungry for books.

One of my favorite book series as a young girl, and to this day (because some things just can't be outgrown) is the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories. Only now, I inevitably seem to always solve the mysteries faster than Nancy does. Nancy taught me well, as a detective, and has also become a recent inspiration for fashion.

Yes, old fashioned detectives and spies are my latest muse. Especially the image of a world traveling spy donned in old Hollywood-like glamour.

Try as I might, I couldn't locate any fashion editorials inspired by spy or detective style, but I did find a spread from Vogue Italia (or Italian Vogue, in English) that captures the essence of old glamour I have in mind. Silky scarves to tie in my hair, chic coats, crisp white shirts, and pants that are both strong and feminine. And perhaps, if smoking wasn't such a hazard, a cigarette between my lips.

And for those who adore Nancy Drew as much as I do, check out these darling products (some which are pictured in this entry) from Chronicle Books featuring our timeless detective Nancy at: http://www.chroniclebooks.com/nancydrew

And to draw this entry to a close, does any one have some suggestions of mystery novels as delightful as Nancy Drew? My library only has a small mystery section and most the books I've found there are overly graphic mysteries, almost always centering around gruesome murders and with more adult content then I'd like. I want a mystery that is not childish, and that is challenging of the mind but does not give an overdose in gore. Any suggestions would be gladly appreciated!
