"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."

When I was a girl, they told me to be practical, and I was a dreamer. There was no misgiving, the flames of crescent dreams always coming higher, licking at the bedroom windows, kindling in my soul, a smoldering fire. And down, down burned the house of doubt, the place of skepticism, realism, lost to the fire.

Faith replaces fear, the way spring replaces winter, and winter, fall. The eye cannot see, what credence promises.

Dreamers dream, and we see, not black and white, but vivacious, living colors. We see potential, promise. We are secret keepers of hope, gingerly settling a forgotten faith in the slip between the heart and the faint of our breastbone.

We are skies without end, wild horses without reins. We are your sister, your brother, your neighbor. We are the bumbling man in the corner store, the forsaken beggar in the street, we are the woman on the mosque steps, her figure formless beneath her hijab. We are in regions of terror, in sprawling forests, in city brownstones, in unbroken fields, where grass stands above summer skinned knees. We are shapeshifters. We are here, and we are there.

We walk through the fire, the arson of unbelievers, scorching skin, but never our souls, and with dreams that are kindred to the wings of a phoenix bird, we rise out of ashes. We propel the human race forward.

And we go on, because the future is ours, and we are not afraid. We go on, because we believe in a better day.

When I was a girl, they told me to be practical...

I chose to be a dreamer.

P.S. Here's to all you dreamers...the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers ...

Miss S-C, I love this post!
I am completely a dreamer - I think that if we didn't dream we would probably die. It is our imagination that allows us to live and flourish - even to know and love God and creation.
...let there never be a day without a 'what if'.

Hey S-C,

Good Morning to you! LOVE the 3rd photo...the girls imaginary thoughts are shooting across the screen.

This whole post was lovely & colourfully expressed!

"Dreamers dream, and we see, not black and white, but vivacious, living colors. We see potential, promise. We are secret keepers of hope, gingerly settling a forgotten faith in the slip between the heart and the faint of our breastbone."

Wow.

I would consider myself a daydreamer bringing a state of mind into reality. If I may add to your description :O).....

Dreamers believe, as a child does, never wavering nor wondering if the impossibe is possible. They attack the gates of it imagination, the paint it, write it, and script it from beginning to ending, treating it as though it were a GIANT colouring book of our their wishes, given straight at their demand. Always compact with a smile, dreamers don't wonder they seek. Purpose.

Thank you for writing this!!! Also, thank you for the link for Behind The Inspiration, I've also added Girl Meets NYC on their as a link too :O) Hope you're cool.

hello SC! :D
lovely, beautiful post as always.
i would say...i am a dreamer, but my dreams are stopped by reality. that's a bit sad isn't it? but it's true. i dream of doing lots of things but really i can't do them because of reality. restrictions are there like parents, money etc. but thinking about reality is so tiring sometimes. it's good to be able to dream :)

SO Wonderful!
I am definitely a dreamer, but I believe that being a dreamer does not mean you have to be disconnected from reality. I think there is a balance between the two. I think that when you find that balance your dreams are more tangible and powerful because they can root themselves into something. From those dreams we can create. to be completely disconnected from reality and the world would make your dreams only fleeting and ephemeral, which is the realm of daydreams, not the dreams that you wish would come true.
I have not idea if that made sense :)

Have a great day!

faith is definetaly nessacary to dreaming. because dreaming(for me) means stepping out of the box and taking risks, and taking risks requires having faith. dream big my love!

Hey darling, the video is on my blog now – your link didn't work. I love this post too (as everyone) and see my younger self in you. You have such promise and I am so excited to watch you grow and blossom and burst free with all your latent sparks!! I can hear and feel them my friend, we're of the same essence I think.

I also want to comment on some of the above comments: It's very interesting that J.Yo writes "without dreams I believe no reality could exist", while Surimay says "dreams are stopped by reality."

Surimay, consider that your dreams have the power to Create your reality. Parents and money aren't barriers, they're challenges that 'reality,' or the universe/ God (depending on what higher powers you believe in) offers you in order to see if you can rise above them. Look at barriers as obstacles in a Harry Potter maze – they tempt you to stretch yourself and use new intellect/ muscles/ skill which you've been storing up all this time.

Treat life as a game of obstacles, uphills and downhills, and you'll enjoy all of the peaks and narrows because it becomes incredibly Fun!

Thanks Susanna (can I call you Sus?), you are my allied philosophy pioneer on the road! Giving what there is to see and know. Keep going, and never change.

it's absolutely lovely..

I am forever dreaming... and I think it's very important. I could not imagine a life without it. Many people say that one should keep one's feet on the ground & head out of the clouds, but I think a mindset like this can add, in some situations, to prejudice, misunderstanding, and a general lack of love.

I am a dreamer, but only on the inside. I'm very private about my dreams, I guess because I realize that that's exactly what they are.

They're nice to have around though, dreams are important, instead of dreams they should be hopes...hopes of what's to come. It's what keeps us living. Motivated. Working. Striving.

Dreaming is important. Bottom line, without dreams we are just lifeless robots walking the earth. I honestly dream everyday.

And you are very right about what you said on my blog. Job finding for the youth is so scarce its scary. I been thinking on whether I should start an online shop myself. Out of all the places I applied I only heard from One place. It's a fashion design job so I'm hoping I get the position, but if not I'll just be 100% self employed.

It often comforts me to think that many of us are dreaming the same dream: Human race living as one with nature, each other and God, in peace and harmony.
I would definitely call me a dreamer, it gives purpose to my every day.
But then again, I am also learning to accept the present as it is, because it is like it is for a reason and I try not fantasize too much how it should be, because that only leads to suffering. (I like the way "present" hay mean two things in english, like "right now" but also "gift").

Have a great week honey!

Wonderful thoughts. The world needs dreamers...I think I'm caught between being a dreamer and realistic--I don't really know where I stand. My mother recently said (when speaking of my sister), "It's good for her to have the dream. Even though she'll probably never achieve it." And that made me unreasonably sad...I think dreamers have a tendency to be crushed much more easily and devastatingly than realists...

I used to be very upset with myself. I often thought, "I hate my heart. Too emotional, too sensitive, too far away from reality" But after spending time an amazing painter some summers ago I began to embrace myself. She said something like, "God is the ultimate creater and he gave people like us a heart like his." That really touched me has continued to make sense. Not that creative people are gods, but that we have a creative spirit. We invent and dream and entertain. We use our gifts and talents to enrich lives. Just a few days ago I was on a nature walk and thought how beautifully crafted the flowers and plants were. That a loving hand takes the time to enrich our environment and yearns to enrich our lives with even greater beauty, if we let him.

I love the title's quote.

This post, once again, made me feel like I'm not alone.
I am a dreamer not because I want to go against what people tell me they want me to be, but because it's something that was born with me.
Hope that makes sense. It does, in my head.

It's a real pain to be a dreamer when everybody expects you to be... practical.
But how can life be beautiful without dreams? How could Humanity be a better place without dreamers?

Everything we know and take for granted was once somebody's dream.

So yes. They tell me to be practical too.
But I will ALWAYS choose to be a dreamer :)

And thank you for your note! It made me smirk, cause I've always felt the same way. When I was little and people asked me what was the most important thing in my life I'd say Friends. they were shocked and asked "What about family?".
I always thought that friends are more important because you get to choose them. Besides, not all your family is important, only the ones you like - and those I'm proud to call my friends as well.

Hope you had a nce weekend!

LOVE the title quote! I've been missing your beautiful posts, S-C!

I am a complete dreamer, and I fully believe in the importance and power of dreaming.

However I do believe that there can be negative consequences sometimes as well. While I believe dreaming is so wonderful and highly important, I also believe that it is important to not let your life be played out in your mind, but also to take a risk and live out some of these dreams; to make them reality.

Have a beautiful beautiful day xx

I believe everyone is a dreamer from birth. Yet as we grow and demands and expectations are placed upon us we generally quash these dreams in place of pleasing others, and fitting societies/families expectations. Go to church/go to college/get married/have 2.5 children with a white pickett fence. We forget what our dreams are at times, but when we open up ourselves and give ourselves wholly to the possiblity of fufilling them, we achieve something great. and YES i would buy a book. :)

Yes, I do believe I'm a dreamer. And I wish more people would be dreamers. I think it's more than dreaming--to be hopeful for better days and a brighter future along with the faith that dreams will come true.

I guess why some people are not so keen on being dreamers is because they think that to become one would make you lose your sense of reality. To a certain extent it can, but only if you allow it. Ideals and reality can coexist..if they didn't, we wouldn't have the things we have now :)

until now, your entries never cease to amaze me with the creativity and depth you pour into each one. thank you for making me smile on this somewhat dreary day :)

Relying on your dreams to take you through life.. that takes courage, you know? Not my finest attribute. But I'm still hopelessly devoted to dreaming. And now I'm ecstatic that so many other wonderful dreamers exist in the world :D

Congrats on the interview. It is well deserved.

"We are secret keepers of hope." That's my favorite line, S-C. It's so hip to be cynical and jaded but it's better to nurture hope and faith.

I've always been a dreamer. I dream big! But the life I live now is bigger than all my dreams ever were =)

That's because I can also be practical... in that "How can I make my dreams come true?" way! Yep, for us to live the dream, we have to wake up and work at them! And it's hope and faith that make us work hard until the dreams finally do come true!

That was really lovely!

anyone can dream. it takes faith to make those dreams reality. and sometimes it takes faith just to step out the front door.

I'm a dreamer and contrary to your post I AM afraid. It scares me half to death so I run towards the practical in order to meet society's expectations. So I don't have to worry about eating out of a can and shopping at Goodwill all my life. But I know the price I'm paying - I know I'll never really be happy. If I wasn't afraid...

I'm definably a dreamer. I don't think you need faith to be one though. But I do believe that everything happens for a reason, that the people you notice passing by, and the people you don't notice, you do and don't for a reason.

I really enjoyed the Think Different video. <33

take care love

Thank you for this post, Susanna. I will put the video on my blog, with credits to both you and Sophie (who is also an amazingly talented writer), so that my miniscule handful of readers may be inspired in the way that your writings inspire me.

Your vision about the world and nature is fantastic, and the words you find to describe it... I must say that I've found myself in these words, I just can't live without my dreams, and I don't reffer to the ideals, but the dreams from out subconscience.

Beautiful writing! I believe faith is necessary. It's called the good fight of faith--to hold on to, to cling to, to persevere and endure in keeping faith to continue pursuing your dreams. Though it linger, wait for it. It will certainly come and will not delay. If you believe, you will receive. "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (Mark 11:24). Also, just like in the song sung by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey--"When You Believe." The song says "You will when you believe." There can be miracles when you believe. It's a beautiful song. :)
